Siân Roseanna is a South East London dwelling singer and songwriter. Influenced by a mix of genres from jazz, indie, country to soul music, she has a unique, raw, and vulnerable sound. In Siân’s own words: she lives it then she sings about it.

In this blog, we explore Siân’s music journey, how her sound has evolved, her major influences, and the emotions she channels through her work.

What’s One Thing You Wish You Had Known When You First Started Your Music Journey?

“I started writing music and gigging pre Tik Tok and Instagram, when the music industry still felt like it was concerned with artistry and organic growth, rather than optics and algorithms. Looking back, that shift felt like it happened overnight. So I guess it would have been good to know there was a hustle ahead. A great voice and great lyrics isn’t always enough, sadly.”

How Has Your Music Evolved Over Time?

“It’s definitely been what feels like a full circle journey so far. I started off really influenced by jazz. Then I thought that wasn’t cool so made a bit of a meander into more commercial and Rnb sounding music. Then I remembered that my music should be for me first. So I’ve come back home musically and am enjoying stripping it all back again.”

Who Were Your Biggest Influences When You Started Creating?

“Ella Fitzgerald and Johnny Cash. I learnt to sing listening to Ella. I was, and still am, captivated by the smoothness, range and flexibility of her voice. Johnny Cash because of the engaging and conversational way he writes. Whatever story he is telling, he pulls you in there with him. And then Amy Winehouse, because she’s a combination of all those things.”

What’s Something About Your Creative Journey That Might Surprise People?

“Fun fact, I co-wrote a song on the movie Anti-Social, one of the last movies Meghan Markle made before she got married. I also got offered a record deal in my early twenties, and turned it down. The guy was creepy. I don’t regret it.”

What Emotions or Experiences Do You Aim to Capture in Your Music?

“I write about personal experiences that have stuck with me for whatever reason — perhaps things I have been through that I need to understand a bit better myself. When I write and sing, the world opens up to me and I open up to myself. The emotion I aim to capture is my own vulnerability. Music has given me so much and I want to give back, by being as honest as I can.”
