I just discovered one of the most remarkable releases I’ve heard in a long time: Camille Yembe’s song and music video, “Plastique.” This stunning debut showcases her raw talent, poetic sensibility, and emotional depth.

Camille Yembe: A Timeless Voice

Born on January 17, 1997, in Brussels to a Belgian mother and a Congolese father, Camille Yembe is a French-speaking artist whose music transcends time. At just 25, her soul-stirring voice and heartfelt lyrics evoke nostalgia and tension, accompanied by her guitar or piano.

“Plastique”: A Poignant Debut

“Plastique” marks Camille’s first steps in her artistic journey. The lyrics explore self-discovery and societal pressures, using the metaphor of a “plastic skin” to mask vulnerability. The chorus, “I put on a plastic skin / To avoid breaking everything again,” captures the struggle between self-preservation and authenticity.

The music video, directed by Milena Pasina, enhances the song’s themes with stunning visuals. Creative direction by Candid and cinematography by Tristan Galand bring the story to life, complemented by Louise Van Der Vorst’s set design.

A Message of Pride and Perseverance

Camille’s manager, Gandhi, shared his pride in her journey:

“Between the day we met and today, you’ve become a formidable artist! Confident in what you want, captain of your ship. Your first single, ‘Plastique,’ is a visible step after thousands of invisible kilometers. Let’s keep walking, @camilleyembe! Straight ahead!”

Lyrical Highlights

Would you hand me a cigarette?
I confess, I don’t smoke, but I’d do it for you…
It’s bad, it’s bad, I’ll surely go to hell
I don’t know what else to do to be the most stylish tonight.

I put on a plastic skin
To avoid breaking everything again
Once more
I put on a plastic skin
So I could throw it, throw it to the ground a thousand times.

With “Plastique,” Camille Yembe delivers a profound debut, blending introspective lyrics, timeless melodies, and powerful visuals. This is just the beginning of an extraordinary journey for an artist to watch. Straight ahead!
